Special Session 1: Quality Engineering

Topics

Information systems and ICT products are increasingly used to perform a wide variety of organizational functions and personal activities. The quality of these products and systems enable and impact various business, regulatory and information technology stakeholders including direct and indirect users, developers, maintainers, acquirers, independent evaluators, system integrators, implementers, operations engineers, architects, trainers, business owners, auditors, managers, and the society at large. High-quality information systems and ICT products are hence essential to provide value, and avoid potential negative consequences, for the stakeholders.

However, the current manner of developing the information systems and ICT products are drastically changed:

  • More agile based
  • More integration based (combination of services consumed and components)
  • Increase of importance of data
  • Unclear responsibility for its quality (laid in severalorganization)

These changes make quality engineering more and more complicated and important for the current ICT products and services.

This special session focuses on methods, techniques and tools for the quality engineering, to overcome such difficulties.  The intended research topics include:

  • Quality models and measures, and their application to various targets
  • Quality consideration on
    • system of systems,
    • emerging technologies such as AI, Big data, Blockchain, etc., and
    • new types of development processes such as Agile, DevOps, etc.
  • Quality engineering education

Special Session 2: Empirical Software Engineering

Topics

In the past two decades, empirical research has gradually played an important role in the research of software engineering, namely empirical software engineering. Empirical studies usually involve the collection and analysis of data and experience that can be used to characterize, evaluate and reveal relationships between software development deliverables, practices, and technologies. Over time, it is expected that such empirical results will form a body of knowledge leading to widely accepted and well-formed theories. This session will cover a broad set of research topics about empirical software engineering, including but not limited to the following:

  • Application of empirical research in software engineering
  • Methods and techniques of software metrics & test
  • Empirical research of software processes and products
  • Software model based on empirical research
  • Research on software reliability model
  • Empirical software engineering research framework
  • Software prediction models and metrics
  • Empirical Research and Software Engineering Process Improvement
  • Evidence-based software engineering
  • Mining data from software repositories

Special Session 4: Software Crowdtesting

Topics

Crowdsourced software testing refers to the use of crowdsourcing techniques in the domain of software testing. It is an emerging paradigm which can improve the cost-effectiveness of software testing and accelerate its process. Crowdtesting entrusts testing tasks to online crowdworkers whose diverse testing environments, background, and skill sets could significantly contribute to more reliable, cost-effective, and efficient testing results. It is an emerging area with its applications rapidly increasing in the last decade. For instance, it has been not only adopted by many software organizations, including but not limited to Google, Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft, but also applied to many software testing activities such as usability testing, functional testing, compatibility testing and performance testing.  accepted by more and more researchers. More and more researchers and practitioners are doing in-depth research on crowdtesting process.

Hence, this special session focuses on methods, techniques, and tools for software crowdtesting. We invite high-quality submissions, from both industry and academia, describing original and unpublished results of theoretical, empirical, conceptual, and experimental software engineering research. The intended research topics include, but are not limited to:

  • crowdtesting task/worker/report management
  • crowdtesting quality assessment
  • empirical study on crowdtesting
  • intelligent method in crowdtesting
